About the event

$90 members/ $100 non-members for two part workshop. Price is for both book arts classes on July 12 & July 19 full or partial scholarship available upon request.

In this 3-hour workshop students will create in and tour the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center which is located in downtown Kalamazoo.  This exhibition space and working studio has paper making and letterpress areas with unique equipment and opportunities to learn.  Also in the KBAC facility is a gallery, a bookbinding teaching space and a small store. Students will learn the skills and language needed to create handmade sheets of paper, make a print on one of our letterpresses and learn about the books arts by touring the space. In the paper making part of the workshop students will learn about the materials, fibers and tools need to successfully make paper. They will form sheets and begin to play with colored pulps and inclusions. Instruction will be flexible enough for beginners or more experienced papermakers. Students will complete multiple sheets of paper which can be used in a variety of ways. The paper needs to dry in the KBAC presses but will be available for pick up in South Haven the week after the workshop.  All materials and instruction are provided.
