Group Exhibition Proposals for South Haven Center for the Arts

South Haven Center for the Arts is a small non-profit located in South Haven, Michigan in Van Buren County. The South Haven Center for the Arts mission is community enrichment through the arts. For 72 years the art center has served South Haven area's farming and retirement community. We receive visitors from all over Michigan and the midwest.

South Haven Center for the Arts is looking for exhibition proposals of 3 or more artists for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 calendar years. Proposals from organizations are also welcome.  Proposals will be reviewed on a quarterly schedule. Next review will be in September of 2023.

Criteria for exhibition selection include community interest, inclusiveness, broad appeal, affordability and potential for community enrichment and associated programming.  South Haven Center for the Arts works with an exhibition committee comprised of seven talented and experienced South Haven and Southwest Michigan artists.

 

Group Exhibition Proposal requirements please include the following:

  • Group Exhibition Proposal

  • Artists Bio’s & Brief Resumes

  • Curatorial statement: One page curatorial concept supporting the proposed exhibition

  • History of the group or organization if applicable.

 

Educational Value: Part of the vision for the SHCA is to educate the community about the arts and to engage the community in the viewing, understanding, and creating of art. In approximately 50-100 words, please give us information about the work (process and product) that can be used for educational purposes. In addition, please include ideas –talks, workshops, etc.-that the artists would be interested in provides to further engage our community.

Please include ten images in your application. The proposal must include images to be considered for the exhibition. If works are in production, please submit similar sample images of each artist’s work. Please include at least one image by each artist to be included in the exhibition (unless the group is larger than 10, then choose a representative sample). Work previously shown at SHCA is not eligible for exhibition. Work must have been completed within five years of the date of the exhibition.
