In this class, children will explore the worlds of art and imagination using a variety of 2-D and 3-D art

materials. Learning experiences will place emphasis on learning about the elements and principles of

art, having fun, and exploring creativity! Students enrolling in this class should be able to use scissors

and write their names. Pick and choose which weeks to attend or sign up for all six!

July 11: Me in Clay— Create a 3-D self-portrait!

July 18: Wild Things— Learn about drawing the details of faces and then take it to the wild side! Be

inspired by Max and Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

July 25: Dogs in Space— Inspired by another children’s book, paint an outer space-like background

and learn some stencil techniques to add dogs!

August 1: Printed People Playing—Learn a bit about depicting figures in motion. Printed foam,

wood, and cardboard will become runners, dancers, ball players, and more!

August 8: 3-D Collage— Build with wood, found objects, wire, and more to create unique and fun

sculptures.

August 15: Imaginary Garden—Inspired by watercolor artists in the Michigan Watercolor Society

exhibition, students will have some fun with the flowing and transparent nature of watercolor.
