SOUTH HAVEN CENTER FOR THE
ARTS
VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
In keeping with our mission
statement "Promoting Community Enrichment Through the Arts",
The South Haven Center for the Arts is awarding a scholarship
up to $500 to aid a high school graduating student who has been
accepted to study visual art, as a major, at an accredited art
school, college, or university. Selection of one winner will
be based on visual art talent, character, and promise in the
arts. One may apply before being accepted to college, but will
not receive the money until we have a letter of acceptance from
the school. Deadline March 15th.
Who may apply:
Graduating seniors from the following areas who plan to major
in visual arts may apply: Bangor, Covert, Bloomingdale, Fennville,
and South Haven.
Application Procedure:
To apply for this scholarship, the following steps must be completed
and all paper work turned in to the school counselor. Call for
an appointment to bring in your portfolio to the South Haven
Center for the Arts.

1) Complete this application.
2) Submit three letters of recommendation (Delivered directly
to your school counselor by the people recommending you.). They
may be from your present art teacher, another teacher, counselor,
or administrator at school, someone who has known you for at
least 4 years and is not a relative.
All letters should include
the following:
A) Relationship of the student to reference and length of relationship
B) Character traits of student with examples
C) The reasons why this student should or should not receive
this scholarship.
3) A portfolio containing
6 of your recent works. Call the South Haven Center for the Arts
(637-1041). and make an appointment to bring in your portfolio.
It will be reviewed by at least one professional artist. No art
teacher currently working with an applicant may serve on the
reviewing committee.
4) A typed essay written by
the applicant which includes the following:
the reasons why you should be awarded this art scholarship.
a list of art shows/exhibits in which you have participated
awards or honors received
..
.any community involvement related
to the visual arts
any work experience
other important information/experiences future plans and dreams
5) Transcript showing no less
than a cumulative 2.5 GPA
6) Letter of acceptance may
be submitted after the deadline from a fully accredited college
or university with the intent of majoring in the field of visual
arts. This is not required at the time of completing this application
for this scholarship, but is required before payment of the scholarship.

for the Arts. I realize that I may complete this application
after applying to an accredited college or university, but cannot
received the scholarship money until I am accepted at the institution.
The scholarship money can be used for art supplies, books, etc.
to help me further my study of visual arts. Scholarships are
paid directly to the institution for the student's account.
