Center Studio - Children's Make & Take Art!

Offering classes for art-making on a drop-in basis, these two 1 hour long creative sessions inspire
imagination and expression. Lessons are taught by artists and certified art teachers and are designed for children (and children at heart) four and older.
Children younger than four are welcome to attend with a parent.
 
Classes are offered Tuesday through Friday
with two sessions to choose from…
 
Morning Session - 11:00-12:00
Afternoon Session - 12:30-1:30
 
  
No registration required.   NEW projects daily. Fee: $6.00 per session

June 22-Wolf Kahn Landscapes-Using pastels be inspired by the vibrant color in Wolf Kahn’s landscapes and paint your own!
June 23- Bird Houses-Come in to make a fun home for our feathered friends
June 24-Sea Turtles-We’ll be using a variety of materials including table salt to create these lovely paintings. Watch for the chemical reaction!
June 25-Story Quilts-Faith Ringgold is the artist inspiration for these story quilts. Come play with color and design and tell your story.
June 29-Cave Painting Hand Design-We’ll look at cave art of primitive people and make our own handy versions.
June 30-Mexican Folk Mirrors-Make a colorful, beautiful mirror!
July 1-Native American Parfleche-Based on Plain Indian’s buffalo hide bags, make a parfleche from recycled bags.
July 2-Brooches-Use a variety of materials to create fun, funky or pretty pins!
July 6-Spotted Fish-Patterned and colorful, these bright beauties are as fun to make as they will be to look at!
July 7-Picasso Cubist Portraits-Markers and magazines will be the materials we use for these cubist masterpieces!
July 8-Beasts of the Sea-Colors and shapes are the emphasis of this cut
paper project in the style of Henri Matisse.
July 9-Buggy Sculpture-Recycled materials and your imagination are what we’ll use to make these fun BUGS!!
July 13-Monet Water Lillies-Beautiful tissue paintings inspired by the
Impressionist Monet.
July 14-Action Figures-fun bendable figures made from a variety of colorful materials.
July 15-Flat shapes in 3D-Explore how to connect and attach different shapes to make a fun sculpture!
July 16-Burlap Flower Prints-We will sew and print an burlap to create lovely artwork.
July 20-Clothes Pin Magnets-This is fun and functional art!
July 21-Bouquet Collage-Tissue paper and pastels combine for this pretty work of art.
July 22-Knight or Princess Paper Doll-Create a royal treasure: make a knight or a princess to play with.
July 23-Symmetry Aliens-We’ll learn about symmetry and then use it to create aliens from cut paper and embellish with a variety of media.
July 27-Two Liter Fish Sculpture-Recycled pop bottles will become fantastic fish sculptures!
July 28-Jaon Miro Shapes and Lines-We’ll look at the playful art of Joan Miro and become inspired to make our own versions.
July 29-Deborah Butterfield Horses-We’re looking at & learning about artist Deborah Butterfield then making horse sculptures from a variety of new and recycled materials!
July 30-Sock Puppets-Come in and have fun creating a new friend!
Aug 3-Spaceship Collage-We’re using lots of stuff from the junk drawer to make great out-of-this-world art!
Aug 4-Nature Mobiles-We’ll be making beautiful mobiles to brighten any room with materials collected from outside.
Aug 5-Torn Paper Fold Out Book-Tear paper and what do you see? We’ll turn those scraps into a fold out book!
Aug 6-Hat/Crowns– Make yourself a snazzy new hat!
Aug 10-Japanese Story Kites-Most Japanese kites tell a story through their decoration, for this lesson, we will make decorative kites with a story to tell.
Aug 11-Kadinsky Style Mixed Media-We’ll use various shapes in cut paper, sharpie, cres pas& watercolor to create art in the style of Wassily Kandinsky.
Aug 12-Dinosaur Collage-Come in & create a dinosaur of your own using cut paper and recycled magazines!
Aug 13-Seussical Landscapes-Hurray for Dr. Seuss! We’ll create a landscape drawing in his style.
Aug 17-Shadow Boxes-Create a new world/environment inside a refurbished cereal box!
Aug 18-Collagraph Printing-Make a fun one-of-a-kind print!
Aug 19-Indian Shadow Puppets-This is a traditional form of art and
entertainment in India. We’ll make puppets and ours will be crafted from
paper and sticks.
Aug 20-Last Day Art Buffet! -You choose the project you’d like to make today!
 
 
Afternoon Session 12:30 to 1:30   
June 22-City Scapes-Inspired by Ashcan Artists of New York City and how they painted their environment just as it was, we will create a stencil & use colored chalk to create our own enviroment.
June 23-Straight Line Art-Inspired by Piet Mondrian, we will actively identify types of line in the environment and re-create it with various media.
June 24-Wire Circus Sculptures-Learn about the life of Alexander Calder and create a wire sculpture on a circus theme!
June 25-Patriotic Wind Sock-Create your own 4th of July wind sock using surprise items!
June 29-Sun Catchers– Create a sun using tag board, wax paper, string and colored tissue paper.
June 30-A Summer Collage-We will appreciate and discuss the sun’s value and create a garden using felt, cardboard, yarn and beads!
July 1-Model Magic Sculpture“Aztek Sun”-Multicultural lesson. You will be introduced to the art of the Natives of Mexico through visual images & class discussion & create art!
July 2-Seascape-Students will create a summer day at the beach in           landscape using watercolor, sand and shells on tagboard.
July 6-Tactile Collage– Inspired by the work of Eric Carle, we will create
Collage Art by painting tissue paper with watercolors
July 7-Camouflage Collage-Using various media, students will be inspired by Desiree Palmen and “hide’ something in the art they create!
July 8-Picnic Buffet-We will create our own picnic table & treats using various forms of media.
July 9-Making Picasso Faces-We will become “Pablo Picasso” for the day and create faces and rearrange them!
July 13-Moving Caterpillars-We will create a caterpillar from circles, paper fasteners, markers/crayons, & pipe cleaners that can move up & down!
July 14-Ladybug Stand up Garden-We will make a garden of our own out of construction paper, recycled cereal boxes, crayons & tag board
July 15-Frog & Pond-We will use watercolor, crayons, tissue paper, pipe cleaners and coffee filters to create a whimsical bug catching frog!
July 16-Bee & Hive-We will make a bee hive sculpture using cardboard containers, watercolor paint & crayons...we will bee bzzzzzzzyyy!!
July 20-Storybook Art-We will make a story book using lines and colors inspired by artist, Lois Ehlert.
July 21-Tissue Paper Art-Crate a flower or an Indian sun using tissue paper!
July 22-Crayon Resist Bugs-Inspired by Henri Rousseau, we will create an original crayon resist painting of a bug’s life!
July 23-Tissue Paper Collage-We will frame our own abstract tissue paper art!
July 27-Foil Luminary-Design your own outdoor Luminary using foil, insert a tealight candle and watch it glow!
July 28-Become a Cartoonist- We will use step by step instructions and learn how to draw a cartoon character!
July 29-Become a Knight/Princess- We will use step by step instructions and learn how to create a castle!
July 30-Mosiac Fun-We will use various simple items to create beautiful mosaic art!
Aug 3-Coffee Can Drum- Create a fun sounding drum & celebrate different cultures.
Aug 4-Brown Bag Kites-learn about kites and make your very own paper bag kite to fly with mostly recycled materials.
Aug 5-Handmade Sketchbooks-create your own sketchbook just like DaVinci
Aug 6-Painted Shoes-Bring an old favorite pair of shoes in & turn them into a wearable work of art.
Aug 10– Friendship Bracelets-We will become friends as we string beads and tie knots with pony beads & colored elastic!
Aug 11-Friendship People-a multicultural project-create a person from another country by using construction paper, watercolor paint & tagboard
Aug 12-Watercolor Seascape Collage-Get inspiration from artists such as Renoir and Edward Hopper and paint your own seascape and a make sailboat from construction paper to sail away on!
Aug 13-Bridges-Study some famous bridges and then create one of your own using colored straws, string & construction paper!
Aug 17-Peaceable Kingdom-Learn about artist Edward Hicks and view his artwork “peaceable Kingdoms” and create your own!
Aug 18-3D Expressions-Get inspired by artist Edward Ruscha and create
your name or an inspirational phrase in 3D using various medias
Aug 19-Pastel Number Design-Use art & math to create artwork in pastel inspired by Robert Indiana
Aug 20-Portrait Diptych-Be inspired by artist Frido Kahlo and use aluminum foil to create a self-portrait!
 
 
 

Brown Bag Special: Your child can attend the 11:00 session doing one project, eat their brown bag snack that you provide and then attend the 12:30 session which features a different teacher and project. Discount cards apply! 
 
This new option gives parents the opportunity to spend a little longer shopping, eating a leisure lunch, taking a nap or walking on the beach.
