FISH Film Series Returns
After Successful Premiere Season

The Film Institute of South Haven (FISH) is proud to present its second season of film and discussion series for the community.  Winter is the perfect time to enjoy a good film, participate in lively conversation, and gain a fresh viewing perspective.  Each film will be introduced by a film specialist or instructor.  The South Haven Center for the Arts and Lake Michigan College are proud to present the following films:

All films are free and begin at 3 pm at the South Haven Campus, Room 141. Donations greatly appreciated.

Away with Her
A man coping with the institutionalization of his wife because of Alzheimer’s faces an epiphany when she transfers her affections to another man, Aubrey, a wheel chair bound mute.  Starring Julie Christie and Gordon Pinsent, this film’s inspiring message is “It’s never too late to become what you might have been.”

Date:  Sunday, January 13
Time:  3 pm
Place:  South Haven Campus
Room:  SH141
Cost:  Free
Instructor:  Michelle Stone, Ph.D. Sociology and Gerontology

Bread and Tulips
It’s a mid-life crisis with scrumptious ingredients.  Follow the journey of an Italian housewife left behind by her family and tour group as she embarks on a trip to Venice and reexamines her life and new opportunities.  Italian comedy with English subtitles-winner of the 2000 Donatello Awards.  (Italian equivalent of the Academy Awards)

Date:  Sunday, February 10
Time:  3 pm
Place:  South Haven Campus
Room:  SH141
Cost:  Free

Donut Day / Dishes
Kalamazoo writers, producers and directors will be on hand to lead us through their most recent documentaries.  In Donut Day bakers rise early to mix the dough to start the fryers, but who else is hanging around a local 24-hour donut shop?  24 hours at Sweetwater’s introduces us to the characters behind and in front of the counter, leaving more than a few crumbs along the way.  Dishes is a documentary about collecting Fiesta, a line of brightly colored plates, bowls, pitchers, mugs, and other dishware that was used in millions of homes and today is one of the most popular items for sale on e-Bay.  This documentary seeks to answer the bigger question, “Why do people collect things?”

Date:  Sunday, March 9
Time:  3 pm
Place:  South Haven Campus
Room:  SH141
Cost:  Free
Instructors:  Dhera Strauss and Amy Levin
