HERE'S A BIT ABOUT US AND WHAT WE DO AND OFFER HERE...

Exhibitions

Our 1905 Neoclassical Revival building is a beautiful showcase for exhibitions which feature regionally and nationally known artists. The exhibitions demonstrate a wide variety of media and styles designed to present a diverse body of creative expression. We incorporate programs such as gallery talks and workshops to familiarize the public with the artist's work, background and technique.

Events

Each year we present numerous concerts filling the room with the sounds of Celtic music, Brazilian jazz, blues and folk music. Other events have included an 18th century comic opera ballet, classical music, Brazilian percussion, Latin American folk songs and story telling.

In addition we annually we present four major events. The largest is the South Haven Summer Art Fair which features over 140 artists and takes place in July. In the fall we hold the Miniature Art Auction, in the winter we have the Mistletoe Market - a festive holiday art and gift show - and in the spring we gather for The Spring Benefit dinner and auction.

Education

We offer a full spectrum of classes for children and adults throughout the year . Classes typically run six weeks, but we also offer intensive workshops lasting one to three days. In the summer we offer a variety of week-long children's camps to give youngsters a range of exciting experiences making art and discovering their own creative talents.

History

Our facilities are housed in a Neoclassical Revival edifice erected in 1905 which housed the public library until 1959. From 1988 until 1990, with the help of the community, and funds from the City of South Haven, the State of Michigan and many private supporters, the building was renovated transforming it from a dark and dingy place into the beautiful galleries and classrooms we have today. In June 1990, the community celebrated the Grand Opening of the newly remodeled arts center with a gala affair culminating years of hard work from local volunteers. Now the South Haven Center for the Arts is the home of concerts, exhibitions, and classes as well as many exciting programs year round. It is our mission to promote community enrichment through the arts.

We hope you'll check out our site to find out more and that you'll visit us in person when you're in the area...
