Member Wins Cash Award:
South Haven Art Center member, Donna Allgaier-Lamberti, Pullman, had work accepted into the 2007 Kalamazoo Institutes of Arts Area Show and was awarded the $100.00 "Handmade Paper Guild Award" for her work titled, "Whisper in the Woods." Allgaier-Lamberti is a photographer and hand papermaker.
This work on canvas features an "image transfer" of an original nature photograph she took of brightly colored caterpillar on a contrasting leaf that she photographed and later transferred onto her highly textured handmade paper. This panel was used as the centerpiece of a 22" X 28" canvas collage utilizing her handmade plant papers.
Allgaier-Lamberti has pioneered this unique technique of using handmade papers on canvas. This piece, as well as more of her work, can be seen on her website at http://whiteoakstudioandgallery.aftosawebhosting.com/
In addition, one of her 8" X 10" canvas's was commissioned this winter by the city of Kalamazoo and purchased as a gift for the city's Sister City, Numuzu, Japan.
